This recipe is my own version of a Bolognase or Italian Ragu Meat Sauce as it is known in Italy. I lovely IG friend asked for the recipe when she saw a pic on Instagram so rather than type it out on there, it can feature as this weeks Weekend Recipe!
  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 tblspn Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 4 ripe tomatoes diced
  • 4 large cloves garlic (or to your taste)
  • 1 Large Onion diced
  • ¾ - 1 cup of dry red wine
  • 2 cups of Passata (Italian tomato sauce)
  • 8-12 sprigs fresh oregano
  • 8-12 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 2-3 tspns Beef stock powder or cubes
  1. Turn the stove top to 7-8 and In a heavy based fry pan add the olive oil
  2. Add diced onions and garlic until opaque and slightly brown
  3. Add Tomatoes
  4. Cook for a minute or two
  5. Add the mince and cook until the mince changes colour
  6. Add the wine and cook for a minute to burn off the alcohol
  7. Add Passata and fresh herbs
  8. Simmer uncovered on a low heat for 11/2-2 hours stirring occasionally
  9. Serve with your favourite (gluten-free if preferred) pasta, fresh green salad
  10. Complimented by a good glass of Shiraz 🙂
